Be it Usman Parker of Mee Shivaji Raje Bhosale Boltoy, Speedbreaker of Lalbaug Parel or the latest Magic Mamu in his new release, actor Siddharth Jadhav is going beyond comedy. 'As an actor, I don't want to be predictable. I should be able to surprise the audience every time,' says he. Siddharth, who established himself as a comedy actor, is now doing serious roles. He is working on two projects ' Dhappa and an untitled love story. 'It's a conscious decision to stay away from comedy in M-Town,' he says. 'I started my career doing comedy acts in between plays. I was never offered the hero's role owing to my 'handsome' looks,' he jokes and continues, 'I will never get tired of comedy. But right now, I don't want to continue doing slapstick comedy anymore. I'm kind of done with it.'
The actor considers filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar as his mentor. 'Mahesh is the one who brought me out of my comedy bracket by trusting me with serious roles such as Usman Parker, Ibrahim Bhai. In fact, he gets angry if anyone refers to me only as a comedy actor.'
Siddharth never has any creative differences with his directors. 'I am totally a director's actor. I let the director take complete charge. It is my responsibility to live up to his expectations of me.' Siddharth has done supporting roles in two of the Golmaal films and a blink-and-miss appearance in the Hollywood film Outsourced. 'I can play a villain, a villian's side kick in Bollywood or Hollywood as I believe that every role makes an actor grow,' he says, adding, 'People like us who are not great looking can only impress the audience with our work.'
His characters in films are often remembered for thir names and one-liners. 'It's a successful tactic used by filmmakers. When people meet me, they even repeat my dialogues. Even I get so used to saying a particular line that I tend to use it in real life too!' he quips.
