A man suspected to be a mobile phone thief was killed by four local daily wage workers in Worli on Sunday. The Worli police have registered a case and arrested two of the four people and are looking for the third accused. The fourth person, a 17-year-old boy, has been sent to a juvenile home.

According to an officer of the Worli police station, the incident took place at Khau galli near Doordarshan between 4 am and 6 am. The deceased was found lying injured on the road in front of a construction site. The Worli police were informed and they took the youth to the Nair Hospital where the doctor declared him dead. The deceased was later identified by the police as Akash Kharwa, a local drug addict.

The Worli police registered a case and tracked and arrested the two accused and detained the juvenile. The arrested accused were identified as Saddam Shah, 35, and Ravikumar Gautam, 24.

The police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC. The age of the deceased is said to be around 30 years. A police officer said, "Some people thought that the unidentified person was a mobile thief and started beating him, and he died due to this."

Senior Inspector of Worli police station, Anil Koli said, "A special team arrested the accused within seven hours. The search for the absconding accused is on."
