According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, businessman Raj Kundra replaced his old mobile phone with a new one and deleted data after the pornography racket was busted by the cops in February.

Businessman Raj Kundra, accused in the porn films case, deleted data and changed his mobile phone immediately after the pornography racket was busted by the Mumbai Crime Branch in February this year, according to crime branch officials.

Mumbai Crime Branch officials who are investigating the case said they wanted Raj Kundra's mobile phone in order to access details such as WhatsApp chats, call records, messages, pictures and videos.

The mobile phone Raj Kundra submitted to the crime branch was one that he had bought in March this year. When asked for the old one, he told them he had got rid of it when he bought the new phone.

In an exclusive update, sources in the crime branch said the old phone was vital to the investigation. Now, as the old phone is not available, they will not be able to access data such as chats and calls from the time period when the pornography racket was operating.

RAJ KUNDRA HAD A PLAN-B: MUMBAI CRIME BRANCH

According to sources in the crime branch, Raj Kundra was ready with a Plan-B after Mumbai cops busted the pornography racket in February. He had allegedly already started creating content and working on a new app. Even a name for the app had been suggested. The accused wanted to continue in the business as it was making good profits, the crime branch sources said.

In the meantime, previous data was allegedly deleted. When the Mumbai Crime Branch raided Raj Kundra's office in Andheri West in Mumbai, they found that a lot of data had been deleted. The police are now taking the help of digital forensic experts to retrieve the data.

Sources stated that two to three people had access to the servers. It is being suspected that Raj Kundra or other accused Ryan Thorpe deleted the data.

The police have, so far, recovered 120 adult films from Raj Kundra's office, all of them under the HotShots banner.

WHAT IS THE PORN FILMS CASE?

The Mumbai Police arrested Raj Kundra on July 19 for allegedly producing and distributing porn films using a subscriber-driven mobile app called 'HotShots'. In all, 11 people have been arrested so far in this case.

Raj Kundra was booked under sections 420 (cheating), 34 (common intention), 292 and 293 (related to obscene and indecent advertisements and displays) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) besides sections of the IT Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

Raj Kundra and other accused Ryan Thorpe have each filed petitions in the Bombay High Court stating they were arrested without notice of Section 41a of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The hearings for the same will take place on Tuesday.

Raj Kundra and Ryan Thorpe are under police custody till July 27. The crime branch is going to seek further custody of both of them.

According to the police, Raj Kundra is not cooperating with the investigation and is refusing to accept that he made porn films. He is claiming that he only made 'erotica movies'. However, his employees have come forward to be witnesses in the case.
