Google has appointed Washington Post's chief information officer Shailesh Prakash as its general manager of news. He will join the tech giant in November 2022.

Google has hired the Washington Post's longtime chief information officer, Shailesh Prakash, to head its news division as general manager. Prakash will commence his tenure from November this year. 

At the Washington Post, Prakash led the news publisher's design, product and tech teams for over a decade. Before The Washington Post, he was associated with Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, Motorola and a few other brands. 

"This is an enormous role, and Google gives him a chance to further pursue his interests at the intersection of news and engineering and to have a profound impact around the world," the Post's Chief Executive, Fred Ryan, told employees in a memo.
