A lot of countries have restricted India’s entry amid rising cases of COVID cases. Nepal too has joined the list and banned transit movement from India starting today. The reason for this given by Nepal is that a lot of Indian citizens have been using Nepal as a transit point in order to travel to other countries which have banned India.

Nepal’s home ministry addressed the situation and issued a statement saying that they have restricted such transit movements and now no Indian national would be able to travel outside via them.

A notification has been issued by the Department of Immigration of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Nepal that mentioned, “The arrival of foreigners intending to travel to third countries via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and using TIA as transit airport will be restricted from 28 April 2021 midnight till the next notice.” However, “… The ongoing services provided to travellers arriving to Nepal as final destination and departing from Nepal will be continued as usual.”

The Embassy of India in Nepal has also stated that it is in contact with authorities in Nepal to facilitate travel of bona fide Indian nationals already in Nepal.

Given the rise in virus cases in India, several countries around the world have banned Indian flight operations. From Australia, Germany to New Zealand and Bangladesh, Italy, Canada and the UK, all the countries have imposed a temporary ban on travellers from India.
