Mumbai News | Kunal Kamra vs Shiv Sena Controversy LIVE Updates: Responding to comedian Kunal Kamra’s controversial remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Everyone has a right to perform stand-up comedy. But freedom should not be unrestrained behaviour. Kamra should apologize for his behaviour. The insult of leaders cannot be tolerated. Action will be taken against him as per the law.” In the latest developments, Mumbai police have filed an FIR against Kamra over his controversial jibe during his stand-up comedy performance. Home Minister Yogesh Kadam confirmed that the police are actively working to trace Kamra in connection with the incident.
What has happened so far? On Sunday evening, Shiv Sena workers vandalised a Mumbai hotel where stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra’s show with a jibe at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was recorded. The controversy spiralled after Kamra mocked Shinde during a performance at the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, referring to him as a “gaddar” (traitor). Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray strongly condemned the vandalism, calling it a “cowardly” act. In response to the attack, the venue announced its temporary closure, stating it was re-evaluating its responsibility following the incident. Additionally, an FIR has been filed against the Shiv Sena workers involved in the vandalism.
What Kunal Kamra said? In the stand-up comedy show, Kamra’s performance featured a parody song, set to the tune of Dil To Pagal Hai, with a reference to Shinde’s 2022 defection from the undivided Shiv Sena. His use of the term “gaddar” triggered sharp criticism from Shiv Sena leaders with MP Naresh Mhaske saying: “You will be forced to flee India.” After the ransacking incident, Kamra, who has remained largely silent, shared a picture of himself holding a copy of the Indian Constitution with the caption: “The only way forward.”
