The CTPO position was previously held by Jeyandran Venugopal, who stepped down in February 2025. Reports suggested he would be joining Reliance Retail Ventures as chief executive.

New Delhi: Flipkart, India’s leading e-commerce marketplace and a subsidiary of Walmart, has appointed Balaji Thiagarajan as its new Chief Technology and Product Officer (CTPO). An industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience at global technology firms including Google, Microsoft, Uber, and Yahoo, Thiagarajan will lead Flipkart’s OneTech organisation.

In his new role, Thiagarajan will focus on accelerating Flipkart’s strategic technology priorities and driving innovation at scale, including the adoption of emerging technologies.

“Balaji Thiagarajan is an accomplished leader who has successfully driven innovation across products, platforms, and technology at both fast-paced startups and global enterprises,” Flipkart said in a statement.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Thiagarajan recently founded Kasu.ai (2025), an artificial intelligence platform designed to streamline business operations.

The CTPO position was previously held by Jeyandran Venugopal, who stepped down in February 2025. Reports suggested he would be joining Reliance Retail Ventures as chief executive.

Thiagarajan’s appointment comes at a time when Flipkart is undergoing significant leadership changes ahead of a potential initial public offering (IPO). Several senior executives have exited the company in recent months, including Ankit Jain (Senior Vice-President, Grocery and Large Supply Chain), Prajakta Kanaglekar (Vice-President, HR for Technology), and Anurag Singhvi (Vice-President, Analytics). Additionally, Ganesh Ramaswamy, Vice-President at Flipkart and Chief Product and Technology Officer at Cleartrip (a Flipkart subsidiary), has also moved on.

With Thiagarajan at the helm of technology and product, Flipkart aims to further strengthen its innovation pipeline and maintain leadership in India’s fast-evolving digital commerce landscape.
