Doctors raised the need to be aware of the symptoms of stroke and seek prompt medical care. Early identification of symptoms and early initiation of treatment are crucial for the outcomes of the treatment and for preventing disability.

This year, the World Stroke Day (October 29) is being observed on the theme ‘Every Minute Counts’. Keeping in line with this, MGM Malar Hospitals on Tuesday launched a Rapid Stroke Response Team.

 

A neuro-cath lab was also inaugurated on the occasion.

 

J. Senthil Nathan, senior consultant, Neurology, said that stroke was the third leading cause of death worldwide. It also causes disability. S. Karthikeyan, senior consultant, Interventional Neurology, said that,  nearly 40% of strokes were occurring among younger adults. Avoiding smoking and alcohol, walking or exercise for 30 minutes a day and seven to eight hours of sleep is important.

Janakirman Vijayakumar Sembian, director, Anabond Ltd, Actor Senthil and television anchor S. Avudaiappan, were present. Venuopal Bhat, chief operating officer, Kalpana Thai, medical superintendent, P.R. Sai Prashanth, consultant, Interventional Neurology and A. Aravinth Kumar, consultant, Neurosurgeon and Endovascular Neurointerventions, MGM Malar, participated.
