Kerala's tourism numbers hit an all-time high in 2025, proving its unmatched appeal among domestic and global travellers.

Kerala, also known as God's Own Country, has long attracted tourists from around the world with its diverse natural beauty, ranging from tranquil backwaters and pristine beaches to lush hill stations. In 2025, the vibrant South Indian state on the Malabar Coast recorded its highest-ever tourist footfall, welcoming over 2.58 crore visitors from both India and abroad. The state saw a rise of more than 12.5 percent compared to 2024, when the footfall stood at 2,29,85,363, leaving travel enthusiasts even more excited to plan a trip to Kerala.

Tourism Minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas highlighted this achievement during a press conference in Kozhikode on Monday, noting that it reflects a strong recovery and renewed interest in Kerala's tourism sector. "The state has entered a phase of consecutive record-breaking growth in tourist arrivals," he said.

According to official figures, Kerala recorded 2,50,58,366 domestic tourists in 2025, marking a 12.6 percent increase from 2,22,46,989 the previous year. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, AAndhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal were among the major contributors to this growth.

The state also witnessed an 11.3 percent rise in foreign tourist arrivals, despite global geopolitical tensions and conflict-affected regions impacting international travel. In 2025, Kerala welcomed 8,21,999 foreign tourists from countries such as the UK, the US, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the Maldives.

"The renovation and modernisation of government rest houses have significantly improved accommodation standards, with a large proportion of occupants now being tourists," Riyas added.

Among the districts, Idukki (46,79,800) recorded the highest number of domestic tourists in 2025. It was followed by Ernakulam (44,29,899), Thiruvananthapuram (43,75,846), Thrissur (31,24,696), Wayanad (14,73,710), and Kozhikode (14,69,253).

In terms of foreign tourist arrivals, Ernakulam witnessed the highest footfall, followed by Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Kottayam.
