Officials said that December 31 in the last day to pay the property tax for the current financial year without incurring any penalties.

Mayor Inderjit Kaur appealed to the residents to pay property tax in time. Civic body officials said the department imposes a 10 per cent penalty on payment of tax from January 1 to March 31.

The penalty is increased to 20 per cent and 18 per cent annual interest is also imposed if residents fail to pay the property tax by March 31.

Appealing to the residents to submit their dues in time, Mayor Kaur said residents can pay the tax by visiting the zonal suvidha kendras of MC, or online via the civic body’s official website: mcludhiana.gov.in.

Bulk messages are being sent to the residents, urging them to pay their taxes in time, the officials added.Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar held a meeting on Tuesday with the officials in this regard at MC Zone D office. He directed the officials to expedite recovery of dues. Property tax superintendents, inspectors and clerks attended the meeting.
